Giants’ Saquon Barkley fumble leads to defensive touchdown

Observations from Saturday’s Giants training camp session.

Practicing safety

It looks as if rookie Dane Belton is carving out a role for himself on defense. The fourth-round safety out of Iowa was in perfect position in the end zone as Daniel Jones looked deep down the middle for David Sills. The ball floated into traffic, and Belton was there for a leaping interception.

Saquon Barkley had the ball, but not for long. Darnay Holmes, having a great start to camp, was there to punch the ball out of Barkley’s grasp, and Julian Love did the rest with a scoop-and-score recovery and touchdown. Bad for Barkley, but good for Holmes, who had three interceptions in the first three practices this summer.

Caught my eye

Was this Jones’ best pass in the first week of camp? Near the end of the practice, Jones fired a fastball that rookie Wan’Dale Robinson caught for a touchdown, barely eluding the coverage by Holmes. Jones stood tall in the pocket and delivered the ball where it needed to be.

Medical report

TE Ricky Seals-Jones remained out. C Jon Feliciano sat out again after experiencing heat-related issues after practice Thursday. The reps for WR Kadarius Toney were greatly reduced, as he did not work in any of the team periods, coming off two hard days of running.
