Genie Bouchard gets pranked in tennis return with swimsuit photo credential

Genie Bouchard played in her first tennis tournament in more than a year at the Odlum Brown VanOpen this week. Before hitting the court, though, it seems the player credentialing office had some fun with the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit alum.

In fact, Bouchard’s photo on her credential appeared to be from the 2018 issue of the iconic mag, in which she was featured.

“Can someone from @vanopentennis credential office explain pls??” Bouchard, 28, remarked Wednesday in an Instagram Story.

Fortunately for the Canadian athlete, the gag didn’t last long. In a follow-up post, Bouchard told her 2.3 million Instagram followers that she “got a real one.”

Bouchard has been working her way back from shoulder surgery and faced Dutch pro Arianne Hartono on Tuesday in the women’s singles. Despite falling short of a victory, Bouchard and fellow Canadian Kayla Cross will face Japan’s Miyu Kato and Asia Muhammad of the U.S. on Thursday night in the women’s doubles.

Though Bouchard has never been shy about sharing snaps of her personal life, the former World No. 5 — who was recently spotted in Miami Beach with Christie Brinkley’s son, Jack Brinkley-Cook — has ramped up her work on the court in recent months.

Bouchard was originally slated to return earlier this month at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C., but withdrew just before the start of the tournament. The VanOpen marked her first event since March 2021.
