Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch, whose company News Corp. owns Fox News and the Wall Street Journal as well as many other outlets, is reportedly set to divorce his wife Jerry Hall after five years of marriage.
On Wednesday, the New York Times reported the two were seeking a divorce, but representatives for the couple have yet to officially confirm the move. There has been no reason yet cited as to why the couple were separating after five years.
The Texas-born Hall, 65, gained fame as a model in the late 1970s before transitioning into acting. Before her wedding to Murdoch in London in 2016, she was married to Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger from 1990 to 1999. The marriage ended over what Hall alleges was Jagger's infidelity.
Murdoch, 90, was married and divorced three times before his marriage to Hall.
Murdoch was first married from 1956 to 1967 to Patricia Booker with whom he had one daughter. His next marriage was to Scottish-born journalist Anna Torv. The marriage lasted from 1967 to 1999. The couple have three children: Elisabeth, James and Lachlan, who is now the CEO of Fox News.
A little more than two weeks after divorcing Torv, Murdoch announced that he would be marrying China-born Wendi Deng, who he met as an employee at a media outlet he owned in Hong Kong in 1997.
At the time, Murdoch was 68 and Deng was 31. They have two daughters, Grace and Chloe. Murdoch and Deng divorced in 2013. The aging executive had cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce, but it was reported by several outlets that they split up over an affair between Deng and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Murdoch's marriage to Hall was his shortest. It is unlikely that the divorce will affect Murdoch’s media empire, but there has been speculation that he may take a more active role after delegating more power to his children.
