Ex-UFC Champion Hints At Buying Manchester United; Current Net Worth In Question

KEY POINTS

  • Conor McGregor hints at possibly buying Manchester United FC
  • McGregor may lack the money to acquire Man Utd
  • Most feel McGregor should focus on MMA career than invest in football

UFC star Conor McGregor has amassed a lot of money in his professional career, and it comes as no surprise that the mixed martial arts star could start investing his earnings in sports teams or clubs.

It appears that he has his sights on Manchester United although it may take a massive amount of money to do so.

McGregor posted on social media, asking fans for their opinion on his plans of potentially buying Manchester United.

His post read: “Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?”

Of course, McGregor got several responses for that post. Some felt it was a good idea, while others replied by telling him to focus on MMA.

Others questioned his ability to pull it off, one singling out that he would need over $2.5 billion to get it done.

McGregor’s net worth, as of this writing, stands at $120 million, meaning he may need to take out a big loan or have partners to achieve this intent.

But before moving further, many are wondering if Manchester United is up for sale. Ed Woodward has resigned from the club as executive vice-chairman and is reportedly set to focus on the controversial European Super League.

This development has sparked the belief that the Glazer family could put the club up for sale. The Glazers also own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and purchased the English team in 2005.

The Glazers savored the success with then-manager Alex Fergusson called the shots. However, the family was criticized for backing the club properly.

There is no official word on whether they would be offering the Red Devils in the market for now.

For McGregor and others who may be interested, it would take a lot. The football club would come at a steep price, likely in the vicinity of $1 billion to consummate.

Taking over the Red Devils would be promising, considering the club has an array of talent. That list includes Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Jesse Lingard.

McGregor could be circling on the idea, but his level of seriousness is doubtful.

For now, that idea is left hanging with the “Notorious” preparing to return to UFC action on July 10 in a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier.
