Star warriors rejoice.
Fresh off winning a 2021 Emmy for his starring role in the Netflix drama “Halston,” Ewan McGregor teased “Star Wars” fans by promoting his highly-anticipated “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series on Disney+.
“We finished shooting our series, and it was really, really good fun,” the 50-year-old Scottish-American actor told reporters Sunday night during a virtual backstage interview at the 2021 Emmy Awards. “I really enjoyed working with [director/executive producer] Deborah Chow, and I think it will not disappoint.”
The “Moulin Rouge!” star, who also executive-produced the “Star Wars” spinoff, added, “The new technology that we employed doing it is cool, and it was a different experience than making the original three films that I did.”

The “Big Fish” actor will star opposite Hayden Christiansen as Anakin Skywalker (a k a young Darth Vader), marking the first time the two have shared the screen since 2005’s “Revenge Of The Sith.” Other cast members include fellow 2021 Emmy nominee Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Maya Erskine, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kan, Simone Kessell, Kumail Nanjiani, Benny Sadie, Indira Varma, NXIVM sex cult survivor Bonnie Piesse and more.
The series is slated to hit the small screen sometime in 2022, although producers have yet to announce the specific release date. “Obi-Wan” was originally supposed to air in 2020, but got waylaid after show writer Hossein Amini left in January 2020. It was then further postponed by script rewrites and the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

“It was a surprise and it was incredibly nerve-wracking waiting for your category to come up,” he said of the award, which marked his first-ever Emmy win despite being previously nominated for “Fargo” and “ER,” as well as for narrating the mini-series “Highlands: Scotland’s Wild Heart.”
In “Halston,” McGregor played pioneering fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick, who rose to international fame in the 1970s before his life started to spin out of control.
McGregor admitted to being incredibly inspired by the acceptance speeches of his fellow Emmy winners, including Kate Winslet for “Mare Of Easttown,” who emphasized the importance of female empowerment both inside and outside the film sphere.
“There were just a lot of very beautiful things said tonight in some of the other speeches,” gushed the dramatist. “I have four daughters, and the importance of women and women’s rights, and equality for women, and equal pay for women … It’s so great to be in a room where people are talking about that.
“I always think about my girls, so that is moving and important,” he added.
