  • Thomas Tuchel sang praises for N'Golo Kante's performance off the bench
  • Kante was instrumental in Chelsea's second-half blitz of the Tottenham defense
  • Manchester City will try to knock off Chelsea from the top of the table in their match on September 25

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has nothing but praise for N’Golo Kante’s performance in their 3-0 win over the Tottenham Hotspurs.

“If you have N'Golo (Kante), you have something everyone is looking for. You have everything that you need in midfield with work rate, intensity, ball wins, skilful play, off the ball, with the ball, dribbling and even a goal.” said Tuchel regarding the decision to play Kante off the bench.

“I see this every day in training and it is hard to believe how good he is. He doesn't make a fault in ball wins. He plays excellent in every possession game in training. He is a unique guy.”

Speaking to the media after the match, Tuchel revealed that he felt his side played great individually in the first half but lacked the right energy and attitude to secure the win.

"So the change appeared to be, in terms of characteristics, a bit more defensive but we wanted to improve our compactness, ball wins, and spirit as a team,” he shared.

Kante was the first man off the bench for Chelsea as soon as the second half began, and his on-field performance kick-started Chelsea’s goal-scoring ways.

Marcos Alonso found Thiago Silva for a header at the 49th minute, Kante scored eight minutes later off an assist from Mateo Kovacic, and Antonio Rudiger sealed the game in stoppage time from a Timo Werner assist.

Tottenham, to their credit, made it difficult for Chelsea to score in the early going but had no answers for the skillful blitzing that Chelsea showed them in the second half.

Chelsea found themselves on the top of the English Premier League table after this win away from home, thanks to a two-goal difference over Manchester United who currently sit ar third place.

“There are no more words needed from me. We have a strong midfield together with Jorgi [Jorginho] and Kova [Mateo Kovacic] in the second half. N'Golo is N'Golo. He is fantastic,” Tuchel stated.

Chelsea will host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, September 23 for an English Football Cup fixture before their Premier League match against Manchester City at home on Saturday, September 25.
