Cardinals vs. Rockies prediction: Under is the play

Cardinals vs. Rockies prediction: Under is the play

The Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals will both have marquee players in revenge spots against former teams when these two square off on Friday.

Colorado starter Austin Gomber has had an issue with giving out too many walks with 6.2 per nine innings this season, which has led to a 5.90 ERA in his first season with the Rockies after seeing time at the big league level with the Cardinals in 2018 and 2020.

He will be opposed by Jack Flaherty, who has been a different pitcher at home compared to the road both this season and in his career, posting a lifetime 16-11 mark with a 2.71 ERA with 2.2 walks per nine innings at home while the ERA jumps to 3.99 with 3.9 walks per nine innings and a 12-11 record on the road.

The Rockies’ 3.4 runs per game in road games ranks 24th in the MLB while the Cardinals, with former Rockies All-Star Nolan Arenado, are ninth in the league in runs per game with 4.8. However, the Cardinals are averaging just 4.1 runs per game in St. Louis compared to 5.3 runs per game away from home.

A day of rest for the Colorado bullpen will have them ready to pitch as many innings as needed in support of Gomber. With the Rockies’ 0.7 home runs per game on the road being the lowest mark in the MLB, Friday’s clash figures to have a low score.

The play: Rockies vs. Cardinals Total Under 7 runs.
