Braves top prospect Vaughn Grissom belts a homer in first MLB game

Vaughn Grissom knows how to make a first impression.

Grissom — Atlanta’s top prospect — made his MLB debut Wednesday and promptly launched a two-run home run in the seventh inning for his first major league hit in the Braves’ 8-4 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Grissom, 21, later added a line drive single in the ninth inning for his second career base knock, rounding out a stellar 2-for-4 debut.

Grissom was summoned from Double-A Mississippi after starting second baseman Orlando Arcia strained his left hamstring Tuesday night and was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Grissom has hit .324 with an .899 OPS in Atlanta’s minor league system this year, including a .363 mark in 22 games at the Double-A level.

Atlanta’s Opening Day starting second baseman, Ozzie Albies, has been out since early July with a fractured left foot.
