Arrest warrant for Joe Mixon for allegedly pointing gun at woman dismissed for now

An arrest warrant for the Bengals’ Joe Mixon has been dismissed — for now.

Mixon, 26, was alleged to have pointed a gun at a woman during a road rage incident on Jan. 21 in which he allegedly said, “you should be popped in the face and I should shoot you.” The warrant was issued on Thursday on a charge of aggravated menacing, but less than 24 hours later prosecutors dismissed the charge against the Cincinnati running back.

There is, however, a chance it could be re-filed at a later date, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

“I will sign the entry of dismissal,” Hamilton County Judge Curt Kissinger said in a hearing Friday morning. “And the warrant will be recalled subject to further filing by the City of Cincinnati.”

Prosecutors said they were asking for a dismissal because they needed “additional investigation” before they could move forward. They also added that the alleged victim would like to move forward with the charge if it is re-filed.

The Enquirer reached out to Mixon for comment. His mother reportedly answered the phone and told the newspaper, “Did he do it? No, he didn’t.” She also used the term “money hungry” and said to the outlet, “you guys know Joe” and then hung up.

Mixon’s agent Peter Schaffer also told NFL Network on Thursday that the charge “was a rush to judgement.”

Mixon, whom the Bengals drafted in the second round in 2017, has spent the last six seasons with the team. This past season, he ran for 814 yards with seven touchdowns during the regular season, to go with 39 carries for 163 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals’ three postseason games before they were eliminated by the Chiefs in the AFC Championship.
