Ariana Grande Uses 'Thank U, Next' Button On 'The Voice' To Cut Off John Legend

Ariana Grande pulled a trick on the premiere of "The Voice" Season 21, and it worked to her advantage.

The 28-year-old singer was vying for a contestant, stay-at-home mom Katie Rae Mortimer, to be part of Team Ariana Monday after the latter delivered an incredible rendition of Maven Morris' "The Bones."

However, the newly married "Stuck With You" singer found herself competing tightly with fellow judges Kelly Clarkson and John Legend who delivered good pitches while courting Mortimer to be part of their teams.

As Clarkson discussed the joys of motherhood with Mortimer, Grande decided to join the conversation. "I know that you and Kelly have a baby, but I will have a baby for you to be on my team," she said, then quickly added, "I'm kidding."

But as Legend was making his pitch, Grande quickly hit the button on her chair and played "Thank U, Next" through the soundstage. The trick effectively cut off Legend who was only able to say, "It would be an honor."

The strategy surprised everyone and made Clarkson and Blake Shelton crack up.

"Okay, I love that song," Legend said before standing up to dance to the song.

Legend later tweeted the scene. In the caption, he wrote, "Well played @ArianaGrande… well played! #TheVoice."
