Anthony Volpe’s Yankees candidacy gets a boost

Some key Yankees players want Anthony Volpe on the team, sources say, and that can’t hurt his chances.

Managing partner Hal Steinbrenner spoke enthusiastically about Volpe, and while he isn’t taking sides publicly, he also said, “If I really, really feel strongly about something then I’m probably going to make sure it’s done.”

It isn’t known if Volpe qualifies there, and Steinbrenner also said positive things about Oswald Peraza. But the momentum seems to be for Volpe. A lot can change in two weeks, but he’s quickly gone from long shot to possible favorite.
