Aaron Boone’s ejections vow quickly blows up in his face

This was exactly what Aaron Boone was trying to avoid.

Two days before he got ejected in the Yankees’ 3-1 loss to the Orioles on Thursday night, Boone talked about his penchant for getting tossed and trying to avoid it in the future.

“Oh no, you guys know me well, I’m not, I’m not,” Boone said when playfully asked on Jomboy’s “Talkin’ Yanks” podcast if he was an angry guy.

“I don’t want to keep that pace. I will try and slow that pace. We’ll just have to see how it plays out. We’ll consider this a small sample size.”

Boone’s goals were not accomplished on Thursday.

The Yankees manager was tossed in the middle of the third inning while arguing balls and strikes for starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt.

StatCast had shown several pitches in the strike zone were called balls.

“He wasn’t gonna deal with me,’’ Boone said of home-plate umpire Edwin Moscoso. “I really didn’t do that much [from the dugout]. I thought there was some egregious stuff going on and he was very dismissive. … I don’t think it warranted being thrown out by any means.”

It was Boone’s fourth ejection through 52 games this season, and his third in the past 10.

The rush of early showers is ironically coming as the Yankees play their best baseball of the season, winning seven of their past 10, even with back-to-back losses to the Orioles.

Boone was asked on the podcast why he is trying to avoid ejections and if his wife talks to him about it.

“Well, I don’t like getting fined,” Boone said. “My goal is not to get kicked out of games. Usually, my family doesn’t say much about my ejections. It’s just kinda not spoken about really. But my daughter texted me that she liked my gum toss or something and I had to tell her to do as I say, not as I do. She wasn’t sure what that meant.”

Boone could perhaps face a bigger issue as his latest ejection included some spittle flying in the direction of Moscoso, which could potentially lead to a suspension.

“I hope not,’’ Boone said.

The Yankees begin a three-game series with Padres on Friday night.
